SCREW COMPRESSORS

What is a screw compressor?

A screw compressor is a type of positive-displacement compressor in which two helical rotors rotate in opposite directions and continuously compress air from the inlet to the outlet. Because of this continuous operating principle, a screw compressor produces compressed air that is virtually vibration-free and virtually silent, without the reciprocating motion characteristic of a piston compressor.

Screw compressors are the standard for industrial use. They are suitable for 24/7 operation and require little maintenance between service intervals. As a result, they are more cost-effective in the long run than reciprocating compressors under intensive use, despite a higher purchase price.

Oil-lubricated or oil-free: Which is right for your application?

In an oil-lubricated screw compressor, oil is injected for lubrication, sealing, and cooling. After compression, the oil is removed, and with the proper filter package, the compressed air is suitable for most industrial applications, such as machinery manufacturing, metalworking, and woodworking.

An oil-free screw compressor operates without oil and complies with ISO 8573-1 Class 0, which is required for direct product contact in the food, pharmaceutical, and electronics industries. SK Compressor Service supplies both types from the Kaeser BSD, ASD, and CSD (oil-lubricated) series and the CSG and FSG (oil-free) series, and will advise you on which type best suits your situation.

QUESTIONS ABOUT SCREW COMPRESSORS

What is a screw compressor?

A screw compressor is a type of compressor in which two screw-shaped rotors rotate in opposite directions and continuously compress air. Unlike a reciprocating compressor, a screw compressor operates with low vibration and quietly, and is suitable for 24/7 operation without significant maintenance between service intervals.

What is the difference between an oil-lubricated and an oil-free screw compressor?

An oil-lubricated screw compressor uses oil to lubricate and cool the rotors. With the proper filters, the compressed air is suitable for most industrial applications. An oil-free screw compressor contains no oil during the compression stage and delivers compressed air that complies with ISO 8573-1 Class 0. This is required for direct product contact in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

What is the difference between a screw compressor and a piston compressor?

A screw compressor provides a continuous supply of compressed air, operates quietly, and requires little maintenance. It is ideal for 24/7 industrial use. A reciprocating compressor has a lower purchase price but requires more maintenance during intensive use and produces more noise. For continuous industrial use, a screw compressor is the better choice.

Which Kaeser screw compressors does SK Compressor Service supply?

SK Compressor Service offers the complete Kaeser screw compressor lineup: the SX and SM series for small installations, the ASK/ASD series for medium-sized industrial applications, the BSD series for heavy-duty industrial use, and the CSD and CSG series for high-capacity and oil-free compressed air. All models are available immediately with a manufacturer’s warranty.

How much does an industrial screw compressor cost?

The price depends on the capacity, the type (oil-lubricated or oil-free), and the model. SK Compressor Service operates on a quote basis and always provides a transparent price quote, including installation and compressed air treatment if desired. Please contact us at +31 6 57 18 97 65.

How often should a screw compressor be serviced?

A Kaeser screw compressor is typically serviced every 4,000 operating hours or annually, depending on the model and environmental conditions. SK Compressor Service develops a maintenance plan and performs the maintenance using genuine Kaeser parts and Sigma Fluid lubricants.
