Compressor FAQ

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Compressor FAQ: Do you have questions about compressors, rentals, maintenance, or purchasing? Here you’ll find clear answers so you can get the right advice for your business right away.

Does SK Compressor Service also install compressed air lines and compressed air systems?

Ja SK Compressor Service has its own installation team that builds custom compressed air systems using the following materials: aluminum, galvanized steel, and stainless steel, etc. We build complete, custom compressed air stations and deliver them on a turnkey basis.

Does SK Compressor Service rent out compressors?

Yes, SK Compressor Service rents out compressors ranging from 0.75 kW to 200 kW. We offer screw compressors, mobile gasoline or diesel compressors, and oil-free compressors, complete with all necessary accessories. Filtration meets ISO standards, and we welcome all rental requests, from small jobs to complete, customized utility projects.

What are some quality standards for compressed air?

There are many different levels of quality when it comes to compressed air, which refers to contaminants such as dust, moisture, or oil that may be present. These types of contaminants can have a significant impact on the effectiveness of compressed air and how it can be used. Sectors such as the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the healthcare sector require clean, pure, and contaminant-free air.

The international standard ISO 8573-1 classifies compressed air into different quality levels based on its intended use. These classes help you determine what type of air treatment equipment you need to achieve the required air quality for your application. High-quality compressed air is often necessary to prevent damage to equipment, maintain product quality, and ensure safety in sensitive environments.

What is the difference between refrigerated dryers and adsorption dryers?

Refrigeration dryersuse environmentally friendly refrigerant gas to cool the compressed air and then remove the condensate from the air. With this technology, we achieve a pressure dew point (PDP) of up to 3 °C.

Adsorption dryersuse an adsorption material called a "desiccant" to remove (adsorb) moisture from compressed air. With this method, we can achieve a PDP of -40 °C or even -70 °C

If the ambient temperature drops below 0°C, an adsorption dryer is required to prevent ice formation in pipes and equipment.

Can the condensate just be thrown away?

No, condensatefrom the compressed air coming out of the compressor must still be treated to comply with local environmental laws.

For this process, you will need anoil-water separator. It separates the water from the oil, after which the treated water can simply be drained into the sewer system.

The oil is collected in a special waste container and must be disposed of as chemical waste.

How often should I inspect my compressed air system?

The frequency of inspections depends on factors such as usage intensity, system pressure, the environment, and the type of compressor. A general guideline is:

  • Daily: check pressure, temperature, and any unusual noises

  • Monthly: visual inspection, check filters

  • Annually or every 1,000–2,000 operating hours: comprehensive maintenance
The brand KAESER emphasizes that regular inspections and maintenance are crucial for safe and reliable operation.

Why choose a premium brand like KAESER?

Brands such as KAESER are known for their quality, reliability, and low lifecycle costs (“total cost of ownership”). By referencing a high-end manufacturer, you reinforce the impression of expertise and reliability associated with SK Compressor Service.

What should I do if my compressor system malfunctions or breaks down?

In the event of malfunctions, it is important to respond quickly to prevent production interruptions. SK Compressor Service offers 24/7 emergency service (through service partners, if necessary). For equipment maintenance and parts, you can also check with KAESER’s global service organization, for example.

When is an oil-free compressor needed?

If your application requires high-quality compressed air (e.g., food processing, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors), an oil-free solution is recommended. KAESER states that oil-free screw compressors are ideally suited for such “sensitive processes.” SK Compressor Service provides consulting services and performs maintenance on both oil-free and oil-lubricated systems.

What are the main cost items over the life of a compressor?

In addition to purchase costs, energy consumption and maintenance/parts play a much greater role. KAESER states that energy consumption typically accounts for the “largest share” of lifetime costs. Through smart maintenance and energy optimization, you can save on these costs.

How can I tell if my compressor or compressed air system needs maintenance?

A few points to keep in mind:

  • Rising energy costs without growth in production

  • More vibration, noise, or heat than usual

  • Pressure drop in the system or unexplained shutdowns

  • Condensation problems or oil contamination in the compressed air
If you notice any of these signs, it’s time for an inspection and possibly maintenance.

What is the difference between screw compressors and piston compressors?

In short: piston compressors are often suitable for smaller capacities or workshops, while screw compressors (such as those from KAESER) are used for continuous compressed air consumption in industrial settings. SK Compressor Service can service both types of systems.

What warranties or service options does SK Compressor Service offer?

SK Compressor Service offers maintenance contracts, emergency repairs, inspections, and service agreements. We can also partner with OEM brands such as KAESER to provide original parts and “full-service” maintenance.

How can I extend the service life of my compressed air system?

  • Choose the right system capacity right away (not too large)

  • Schedule regular preventive maintenance

  • Ensure that the compressed air is properly filtered and dried

  • Monitor energy consumption and optimize it wherever possible

  • Work with an experienced provider like SK Compressor Service, and consider taking advantage of promotions from brands such as KAESER for analysis and advice.

Why is energy efficiency important in a compressed air system?

Because energy costs account for the largest portion of a compressor’s total operating costs over its service life. Brands such as KAESER make this a key focus of their development. By improving energy efficiency, you lower the TCO and make your entire system more sustainable.
